Lagos shuts highway following Buhari’s visits to Ogun

The Lagos State Government has diverted traffic from the Epe/Ijebu-Ode Highway and Abeokuta Interchange from 7:00am till 4:00pm today, Thursday, January 13, 2022, following the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Ogun State.

The President is in Ogun State to commission some projects embarked upon by the state government.

Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, assured that alternative routes have been mapped out as well as the deployment of the Federal Road Safety Corps in collaboration with the Ogun State Traffic Management Authority, (TRACE) to manage traffic flow.

He disclosed that motorists from Lagos inbound Abeokuta are expected to use the Lagos-Sango/Abeokuta road and the Mowe-Ofada-Papalanto-Abeokuta or alternately utilize the Ijebu-Ode, Omu –Ketu, Epe road to access their destinations.

The Commissioner reaffirmed that traffic management personnel have been drawn from both states to manage the flow of traffic along the aforementioned routes.

He appealed for the cooperation of road users to minimize inconveniences, reduce travel time and foster safety.

Meanwhile, Buhari has arrived at Ogun State to inaugurate some projects undertaken by Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Buhari, clad in agbada made with the popular local Adire fabrics, arrived at the Gateway City Gate Monument, Sagamu-Interchange-Abeokuta at 11.37am in the company of Abiodun.

Buhari was received by the governors of Yobe, Ekiti, Ondo and Osun states.

The President had already inaugurated the 14km Ijebu-Ode – Epe road expressway, which connects Ogun to Lagos State.

Buhari will proceed to inaugurate the 42km Sagamu Interchange–Abeokuta dual carriageway, which is now renamed as the President Muhammadu Buhari expressway.

Other projects scheduled for commissioning are the new Kobape Housing Estate, located on the Sagamu-Abeokuta Interchange, and the first phase of Kings Court Estate, Abeokuta, developed by the Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation.

The President, during his visit, will also attend a town hall meeting where he is expected to interact with stakeholders and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. (Pieced together from reports by Daily Trust)
