Police Commission rejects Buhari’s former COS’s service extension, orders refund of salaries
The Police Service Commission (PSC), on Tuesday, rejected the service extension granted Abdulkarim Dauda, a former Chief Security Officer to President Muhammadu Buhari, by the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
Our correspondent reports that Dauda, a Commissioner of Police, who was due to retire in January 2020, had his service extended till January 2023, by the former IGP.
He was also ordered to refund the salaries earned between the period.
The PSC board members at their 13th Plenary Meeting while frowning at the former IGP’s move, also explained that Dauda wrote to the commission to promote him to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).
Addressing journalists at the end of the meeting in Abuja, Commissioner representing the Media and the South South Zone in the commission, Austin Braimo, also announced the promotion of two Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG).
Six Commissioners of Police were also promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs).
“We want to ensure that justice is done. That is what the board has done. We took the decision so that it will act as a deterrent. The board has taken a decision and the decision will be communicated to the IG,”Braimo said.
Speaking further, the commission’s board’s spokesman also told newsmen that 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police while 24 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP) were promoted to the rank of DCP.
He also disclosed that 49 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were elevated to the rank of ACP even as 74 Superintendents of Police (SP) were moved up to the rank of CPS.
Further details, according to Braimo showed that 866 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) were promoted to the rank of Superintendents of Police (SP) while 716 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) 2 were confirmed ASP 1. (Daily Trust)
