Newly elected Abia APC Chairman dies 24 hours after court nullified election
Frontline educationist and politician, Mr Enyinnaya Harbor, has died less than two months after his election as Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State. Incidentally, his death, in the early hours of Thursday, December 9, 2021, came barely 24 hours after a High Court in Abia State on Tuesday nullified the election of his executive council and directed the members to stop parading themselves of executives of the Abia State APC.
A chieftain of the Abia APC faction led by High Chief Ikechi Emenike, Harbor was elected as State Chairman of the party at a State Congress held in October 2021.
However, another faction led by the immediate past State Chairman, Donatus Nwankpa, on the same day elected Hon Acho Obioma as Chairman, thereafter heading for court to seek legitimacy.
Harbor reportedly died at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) in neighbouring Enugu State, where he was rushed to after his condition deteriorated.
A close friend who pleaded anonymity disclosed that he had been sick for a while.
“Few days after his election as the Abia state APC chairman, he took ill and several tests conducted on him could not explain the cause of his sickness,” the source said.
