A 60-year-old man, simply identified as Emmanuel, has been hacked to death by a hunter for refusing to stop setting traps in his (hunter) farm for games.

The hunter, identified as Akporuaro Monday, allegedly hacked Emmanuel to death at Orogun community of Delta State.

The suspected murderer was said to have earlier warned the deceased through his son to stop setting traps for games in his territory, but he refused.

Things went awry on October 30, 2021, when the suspect allegedly killed the deceased and thereafter fled the area to evade possible arrest.

Video footage sighted by our correspondent showed some people on a footpath carrying the deceased from the scene of the incident to a destination.

A rights activist in Delta State, Comrade Israel Joe, who got wind of the incident, has however called on the Delta Police Command to ensure justice was rightly served the deceased family.

Joe, in a letter to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Orogun community, said: “It’s on record that after the incident, the suspect immediately left the community until his son was arrested.

“He was forced to return and reported to your station that he murdered the victim and not his son hence his son should be released.”

According to him, “the IPO is alleged to have been convincing the family to accept settlement against the ethics and laws of the Nigerian Police Force. The family of the victim wants nothing, but justice.

“A case of murder goes beyond the jurisdiction of a division and such issues should be transferred to State CIID (Homicide) for further investigations and prosecution.”

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, confirmed to our correspondent on Thursday that no fewer than three suspects had been arrested in connection to the murder. (Nigerian Tribune)
