The Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) Tuesday met with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, over the recent siege to the house of the number two Supreme Court Justice, Mary Peter-Odili.
The group, led by a foremost senior lawyer, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), specifically demanded the immediate investigation of the siege to the Abuja home of Justice Peter-Odili.
Some operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and some other security agencies had last Friday laid siege for hours to Justice Peter-Odili’s house seeking access into the house to investigate alleged criminal activities in the residence.
This is not the first time that security operatives have been invading residence of judges, but it is the first time security agencies including the federal government is denying any involvement.
However, the senior lawyers condemned the act, warning that the development is a threat to the independence of the Judiciary and by extension the nation’s democracy.
Awomolo told journalists after the meeting that the group also plans to meet with the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Tuesday (today) on the issue. (THISDAY)
