The Department of State Services (DSS) has distanced itself from the reported invasion of the Abuja residence of former Rivers Governor, Peter Odili, by security agents on Friday.

The residence is said to also be occupied by his wife, Justice Mary Odili, of the Supreme Court.

Spokesperson of the DSS, Dr Peter Afunanya, responding to a message on whether it was the agency’s operatives that carried out the raid said tersely: “No, pls.”

The security agents, it was gathered, got to Odili’s house around 5 pm but were resisted by a team of security officials stationed in the house.

It was gathered that the security team on the ground in the house included DSS personnel and policemen.

They turned back the visiting security agents because they were not convinced what their intentions were, it was gathered.

It was also not clear who, between the wife and husband, was the target of the security agents.

The ex-governor recently sued the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) over the seizure of his international passport.

According to the NIS, their action followed a request from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who said Odili was on their watchlist for graft.

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, who declared the action by NIS illegal, had ordered the release of the passport in a judgment given on October 18, 2021.

He had also ordered that a public apology be tendered to Odili. (The Nation)
