29-year-old slaps four policemen, tears uniform after resisting arrest for theft

A 29-year-old man, Ayomide Sikiru, has been brought before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, over alleged theft and assault of four police officers.
According to reports gathered, Sikiru assaulted the policemen by slapping and throwing blows in a bid to escape from being arrested for theft.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Magaji Haruna narrated to the court that the defendant had stolen a Tecno Camon X phone valued at N55,000 from the complainant, Miss Rufina Ezeanowi, while in a tricycle they both boarded on Thursday, at WAEC bus stop, Yaba, Lagos.
Haruna stated that the complainant’s missing phone was found with the defendant after a search.
However, when four policemen arrived at the scene, the defendant tried to escape and assaulted the law enforcement agents by slapping and beating them.
Sikiru is facing a three-count charge of stealing, serious assault, and resisting arrest and had previously served a year jail term for stealing a few years back and also been previously convicted of a felony.
However, he pleaded not guilty to the charges. (Daily Independent)
