Gunmen kill UNTH security officer in Enugu

A man suspected to be security personnel attached to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu, was on Monday shot and killed by gunmen suspected to be enforcing the sit-at-home order.

The victim, Stephen Ajah, was reported to have been killed early Monday morning at Ozalla community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State as he tried to rush home from work.

The deceased, who was said to have been on night duty, was said to have been shot and killed by unknown gunmen as he was returning from a night shift.

A gory video of the late Ajah was shown on social media where he was in a pool if his own blood as onlookers watched.

Attempts to reach the spokesman of the hospital, Cyril Keleze, to confirm the incident was proved abortive.

But Enugu police spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident and said the deceased was rushed to the hospital by police operatives for treatment where he gave up the ghost.

“There was a reported case of murder of a young man identified as Stephen Ajah, along Ozalla/Agbani Road in Nkanu West LGA, by yet-to-be-identified armed men. The lifeless body of the said young man was rushed to the hospital by police operatives, where he was confirmed dead and the corpse deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

“Meanwhile, investigation to fish out the perpetrators has commenced. Further development will be communicated please,” Ndukwe disclosed.
