Geoffrey Chikwere, a former media aide to Ebonyi Governor David Umahi, who was detained following a petition by an Ebonyi State Government official, slumped on Monday.

He was rushed to the Ebonyi Police Headquarters clinic for treatment but The Nation left his condition worsened at the facility.

He is battling for life at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (AE-FUTHA) after he fell sick at the police headquarters, Abakaliki where he was detained.

Chikwere, popularly known as Baby Mouth, a former presenter at the Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC), was arrested few days ago following a petition by the State Government for a publication on his Facebook page, which was considered offensive.

The public affairs analyst and social critic was to be arraigned on Monday before he fell ill and slumped.

His wife, Onyinyechi, confirmed this to reporters in Abakaliki

She said: “My husband started falling sick yesterday night when he was in the police station. So, he became worst and the police clinic couldn’t handle it. He is here in FETHA since this morning.

“They couldn’t diagnose anything at the police clinic but he was in serious crisis. So, no we are in FETHA, from the explanations on what is wrong with him, I think it is acute appendicitis but I don’t know yet”.

Police spokesperson, Loveth Odah, said she was not aware that he was in AE-FUTHA and promised to go to the hospital to see him.

There has been outrage and condemnation since the arrest of Chikwere, who is media assistant to Senator Obinna Ogba(Ebonyi Central). (The Nation)
