Traditional rulers in Anambra State have berated the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami for meddling in the affairs of the state.

The monarchs slammed Malami for mooting the idea of a state of emergency in Anambra State.

Malami had on Wednesday said the Federal Government might embrace the choice of a state emergency in the state in other to have the desired peaceful environment to conduct the November 6 poll in the state.

In a statement after their meeting, the monarchs described Anambra State as one of the most peaceful states in the country.

In a communique after a meeting of the traditional rulers in the state, the monarchs, led by the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, condemned Malami’s opinion, describing it as uncalled for.

The statement read in part: “It cannot be right in any stretch of imagination to contemplate emergency rule on the strength of the 12 violent deaths in the last two weeks or three weeks.

“States like Zamfara, Yobe, Katsina, Plateau, Niger, Benue and Kaduna have lost thousands of people in recent times, yet successful elections have been held there.

“Life is normal in Anambra, businesses, schools, markets are open. A lot of petrol stations operate on 24 hours basis and social events such as marriages, burials, title taking and others happen everyday.”
