Igbo leaders betrayed Southeast during Buhari’s visit to Imo — IPAN
Igbos for a Progressive Nigeria (IPAN), has described the recent visit of President Muhammadu Buhari as a waste to the progress of Igbos.
The group explained that Igbo leaders would have utilized the opportunity to x-ray major developmental challenges in the South East.
The National President of IPAN, Comrade Lawrence Onuzulike who stated this in his release to journalists expressed disappointment that Igbo leaders who attended in their numbers could not voice out their problems as the mouthpiece of Igbos.
“It was unfortunate that majority of our leaders were no where to be found, and even those that were there could not represent us when there was need to do so. Our leaders scream marginalization every minute of the day and yet could not come out and confront the president on the matter on Igbo soil. They could not convey the much-discussed grievances of our people to the president. We are having challenges in all federal roads in South East, yet they could not present it to the President.
“Amansea road which had been the only major road to Enugu is now a death trap. Commuters get stranded in that road and sometimes you have to pass your night there. Equally, the Amansea side of the Enugu Onitsha Express way had been abandoned. For you to get to Enugu, you have to drive through Ufuma, or Ayamelum, otherwise, you risk the Amansea death trap.
“Our leaders were afraid of being exposed by the President, should they ask the question. We call on the President to come to our aid and rescue us from the hydra headed monster of infrastructural dilapidation in South East,” he explained.
Comrade Onuzulike charged Ohaneze Ndigbo, the governors of the South East and other Igbo leaders to speak up and churn egocentric politics.
On his part, Dr Eugene Uche, the secretary of IPAN says, “let me remind you that the man dies in him who keeps silence in the face of tyranny. If any of our leaders is not capable again, they should please resign!
“Very soon, we will finalise our arrangements for debate on stewardship, where our leaders will be invited to render their administrative accounts,” he added.
