How three ABSU lecturers died on different days of the week in September — VC
The Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu, Prof. Onyemachi Ogbulu, has cleared the air on the death of three senior lecturers of the institution this month.
Some sections of the media had erroneously reported that the trio died same day penultimate Friday
However, in a Press release signed by the university’s Public Relations Officer/Head of Media, Chijioke Nwogu, ABSU said that the three senior academics of the university did not die on the same day.
“The deaths of these academics did not occur the same day. Available information from the families of the deceased revealed that they died on different days of the week in the month of September 2021.
“The departed lecturers have been battling with prolonged individual health challenges for a while, which could happen to any mortal anytime,” the university said.
The statement condemned any insinuation of “any other reason for the cause of the death of these academics, one of whom had served the university meritoriously and had retired to anything other than what it is — death that came when it pleased the almighty God.”
It added: “Prof. Ogbulu had since, in separate condolence messages to the bereaved families of late Prof. A. I. Nwabughuogu, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic; Dr. D. S. Okoroigwe, Department of Geography and Planning; and Dr. Osi Okike of Political Science, expressed his shock and sadness over the unfortunate incidents
“The administration of the VC has prioritised staff welfare, promotion and protection of lives and property of all and will continue to do so in spite of obvious challenges.”
