The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Gen Muhammad Buba Marwa (retd), has advocated for a premarital drug test for intending couples.

This was just as he hinted that over two million kilograms of drugs has been confiscated by the agency from January when he assumed office to date, adding that the drugs are worth more than N100 million.

According to him, the test would help immensely in the fight against drug abuse and misuse in the country.

He made the assertion on Monday in Kano when he paid a courtesy visit to the Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje.

He also disclosed that the agency has laid down modalities that would mitigate the menace of drug abuse in the country.

Gen Marwa further disclosed that 8,000 persons had been arrested and 1,600 prosecuted and jailed in the period under review.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Ganduje expressed delight at his visit and pledged his administration’s commitment to reducing the menace of drug abuse in the state.

He commended the NDLEA’s effort in fighting the spread of hard drugs in the state, noting that this has made the rampant cases of youths engaging in illicit drugs reduce drastically.

Ganduje said of recent, a huge stack of fake and substandard drugs seized by various agencies were set ablaze.
