Father, son killed in Rivers community

Suspected cultists have allegedly killed a member of disbanded OSPAC – a local vigilante group, Amobi Oguzo and his son, Prince, in Ibaa Community of Emohua Local Government Area (EMOLGA) of Rivers State.

The killings reportedly took place at different times and locations in the community.

A source close to the community said the OSPAC member was killed four hours after the son’s murder, fuelling suspicion the duo was killed by the same persons.

Rivers Police spokesman Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the incident but indicated the matter was being investigated though no arrest has been made.

In a related development, gunmen on Wednesday night allegedly shot an estate agent identified as Alex Frank Blaze along Afikpo/Abakilaka street, Mile 1 Diobu area of PortHarcourt City Council, the Nation learnt.

According to a source, the assailants, numbering four who pretended to be customers at a drinking bar in the area, aimed and shot the victim on the stomach as he walked by.

He was quickly helped to an undisclosed hospital where he is being treated while his attackers fled the scene immediately, believing he would die.

The leader of OSPAC in the EMOLGA, Emeka Wori, expressed disappointment over the killings.

He called on the security agents and governments to be alive to their responsibilities.

He appealed to the state government and the Executive Chairman of the council, Chidi Llyod as well as security agencies, especially the police to rise up to the occasion.

“Since it is obvious that these boys have made OSPAC members their targets, I advice my member to be careful on how they move and ensure they protect and defend themselves.”

The local vigilante group (OSPAC) was first founded in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA of the state to assist check the rising crime wave perpetrated by the then Don Wanni and his men. It was later replicated in other council areas in the state

However, on the assumption of office in June, Lloyd dissolved the group, amidst mixed reactions, but their absence in the area has brought about crime resurgence in the LGA. (The Nation)
