IYC raises alarm over hijack of Bayelsa slots in federal recruitment
Ijaw youths under the auspices of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) have faulted the recruitment exercise by the Federal Government to fill vacancies in its Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
The IYC in a statement on Wednesday issued by its national spokesman, Ebilade Ekerefe alleged employment racketeering among some officials of the MDAs involved in the processes.
Ekerefe said employment slots for Bayelsa State indigenes in the Ministry of Interior, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Federal Fire Service and Nigeria Immigration Services, among others, were filled with unknown names.
He called on the Federal Government to stop the recruitment processes.
Ekerefe said, “Investigation conducted by the Ijaw Youth Council showed that in the list released from the Federal Ministry of Interior, led by Rauf Aregbeshola, showed that it is either hijacked by employment racketeers or sold out by those involved in the recruitment processes to Northern and South-Eastern indigenes.”
He urged Aregbeshola to review the list of beneficiaries from Bayelsa and other states of the Niger Delta region, stressing that the list was suspicious.
He said the Minister should work with the Bayelsa State Government through the state Ministry of Labour and Productivity to get genuine indigenes of the state qualified for the jobs to avert fraud.
The IYC spokesman appealed to members of the National Assembly from Bayelsa to ensure the state was not cheated and its quota filled by beneficiaries from elsewhere.
He also urged them to view the alleged employment scam and hijack of Bayelsa slots as a ‘Matter of Urgent National Importance’.
