This cannot be unconnected to events that characterized their party’s congress in Delta State.
In a letter signed by Chairman, Leaders’ Council Hon. Festus Keyamo, Dr. Alex Ideh, Olorogun Great Ogboru, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya, Dr. Cairo Ojugbo and three others, the Delta State APC Leaders’ Council expressed disbelief, the wrongful and potentially disastrous decision of our great political party to go ahead with the controversial Ward Congresses slated for Saturday, the 31st day of July, 2021.
The leaders council said they would not be silent in the face of the monumental catastrophe which they said portrays a disastrous future of the party if not corrected.
They described the decision of persons to proceed with the Ward Congresses in Delta State and across the country as a gamble.
“The said fatal decision to go ahead with the said Ward Congresses was made without consideration to the fact that same was already procedurally botched in Delta State and many other States as well, where pockets of court litigations have already been set in motion.
“Perhaps it is pertinent to take the party through memory lane via one of the most recent ill fortunes of the party in Zamfara State, where all the victories of the party in that State were overturned in one fell swoop.
“The Zamfara State episode promises to be a child’s play in terms of the monumental kill-stroke which this decision is positioned to deal to our great party if not reversed”.
They claimed that party faithful made payments worth millions of naira to the provided Party accounts within the timetable stipulated in the guidelines, but were not issued with forms, saying that the process was hijacked by fellows loyal to a factional leader in the party.
Meanwhile, Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Representing Delta Central, Ovie Omo-Agege and his counterpart from Delta North, Chief Peter Nwaboshi described the Congress as the foundation of victory for the party in 2023.
They muted that the success of the confess signals a new lease of life for the party in the state, saying that nobody should be treated as a loser under any circumstances saying that we are rebuilding the party to win elections convincingly and comprehensively in 2023.
“This should guide us to earn and deliver future electoral victories. We must redouble our efforts to ensure that the gains of this leadership re-engineering process guide us to heal divisive tendencies, stop self- harming through anti-party schemes and properly reward all who truly demonstrate fidelity to the progressive ideology of our great party,” he said.
