How reckless driver kills three students, injures eight others

Three SS1 students of the Government Secondary School, Field Base, Suleja have been killed when an over speeding vehicle lost control and rammed into them.

The students were trekking home on the Suleja-Kaduna road on Monday afternoon when the incident occurred.

Three of the students were killed on the spot while eight others sustained various degrees of injury.

The students who died were Abdulhafeez Musa, Kawiyat Sharafadeen and Sunday Paul, all in SS1A class.

Those who sustained injuries are: Esther Oyeyipo, Eze Solomon, Akachuckwe Kingsley, Faliat Musbaudeen and Ugwo Ugwo chukwu.

Others are Anarachi Onyebochi, Balkisu Ibrahim and Racheal Okiyose.

The driver, whose identity has not been revealed at the time of this report, was also injured and receiving treatment under police watch in Suleja.

Commiserating with families of the affected students in Suleja, Niger Commissioner of Education, Hajiya Hannatu Salihu, described the incident as painful and tragic.

She lamented students peacefully returning from school to their parents met with their death in a preventable incident.

To prevent future occurrences, the Commissioner stated the state government would construct speed bumps on the roads to schools across the State.

Salihu, who led a delegation from the Ministry, said the visit was to condole the parents of the victims and identify with them in their moment of grief.

Principal of Government Secondary School Field Base Suleja, Hajiya Aishatu Umar, said the deceased students were exceptionally intelligent adding they always walked back home from school every day.
