Former NULGE chair, five others die in Delta cult clash

Five persons have been killed resulting from a clash between two warring cult groups in Asaba in Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Daily Independent gath­ered that the renewed cult killing started in the early hours of July 13, 2021, as a for­mer chairman of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees ( NULGE) popu­larly known as ‘Sachimo’ was killed

It was gathered that the civil servant, who allegedly belong to the confraternity, was killed by marauding gun­men at about 7 am around the Camp 74 area of Asaba, the state capital.

Sources added that he was shot on the head at a close range in the presence of his wife who also sustained a mi­nor injury from a stray bullet, a development that has led to reprisal attacks from the group loyal to the deceased living five people dead.

In another development, the bullet-ridden corpse of a yet to be identified man was found in Otuogu Community of Asaba by Police Operatives in Delta

In another instance, a head­less body of an unidentified man was also found close to the healthcare Centre, oppo­site Studio 24, along Nnebisi Road Asaba, while another body less head was found close to Oshimili South LGA Coun­cil Secretariat.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright confirmed the killing of the former NULGE Chair and three other persons.

He attributed the killings to a cult-related clash, saying that several suspects involved in the clash has been arrested. (Daily Independent)
