Five persons have been killed resulting from a clash between two warring cult groups in Asaba in Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Daily Independent gathered that the renewed cult killing started in the early hours of July 13, 2021, as a former chairman of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees ( NULGE) popularly known as ‘Sachimo’ was killed
It was gathered that the civil servant, who allegedly belong to the confraternity, was killed by marauding gunmen at about 7 am around the Camp 74 area of Asaba, the state capital.
Sources added that he was shot on the head at a close range in the presence of his wife who also sustained a minor injury from a stray bullet, a development that has led to reprisal attacks from the group loyal to the deceased living five people dead.
In another development, the bullet-ridden corpse of a yet to be identified man was found in Otuogu Community of Asaba by Police Operatives in Delta
In another instance, a headless body of an unidentified man was also found close to the healthcare Centre, opposite Studio 24, along Nnebisi Road Asaba, while another body less head was found close to Oshimili South LGA Council Secretariat.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright confirmed the killing of the former NULGE Chair and three other persons.
He attributed the killings to a cult-related clash, saying that several suspects involved in the clash has been arrested. (Daily Independent)
