The Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) has cried out over an alleged plot to kill its leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife Zeenat currently held in prison in Kaduna State.

The group, also known as Shi’ites, alleged that the plot would be perfected by denying El-Zakyzaky and his wife access to proper medical attention despite their deteriorating health conditions.

According to them, the government has refused to free El-Zakzaky despite several court orders, insisting that it was intentionally denying him access to proper medical attention even though his health complications were known so he could die in prison.

In a communique signed by Abdullahi Musa for the Academic Forum of the IMN, the Shi’ites accused the government of carrying out genocide against its members when troops invaded El-Zakzaky’s home in Zaria, allegedly killing many of his followers and leaving him with bullet shrapnel still lodged in his body.

“The health situation of Sheikh El-Zakzaky and his wife does not only require their having access to qualified medical personnel right off, but also a medical facility with up-to-date equipment and this should be with immediate effect.

“There is more to the Buhari regime’s willful denial of proper medication to the couple than meets the eye and such dilly-dallying is a matter of great concern and another cause for alarm, because it is nothing but a move to complete what they started at the tail end of 2015,” they alleged.

They claimed that El-Zakzaky suffers multiple health challenges resulting from the bullet shrapnel lodged in his body after the attack by soldiers.

They noted that apart from excessive lead and cadmium poisoning he suffers, caused by the bullet shrapnel, El-Zakyzaky also suffers from progressive glaucoma, cervical spondylitis, serious case of sleep disorder, recurrent spiking hypertension and episodes of stroke and is in dire need of cardiac catherisation.

“We are making it categorically clear that Buhari, along with his stooges, will be held responsible for whatever happens to Sheikh El-Zakzaky and his wife as we condemn their continued detention and we will continue to protest, calling for their immediate and unconditional release,” they noted.
