Robbers injure NYSC members during vigil in Osun
No fewer than six serving corps members were injured when robbers attacked their lodge and carted away valuables in Osun State.
Information gathered revealed that the incident occurred on Saturday around 4am at the Nigeria Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF) lodge at Dada Estate in Osogbo during a prayer vigil by corps members.
A source said the robbers, numbering about eight, forcefully entered the lodge and threatened to kill anyone who refused to lay down his or her valuables.
One of the victims, Ofure Ehizogie said, “We were attacked and those armed robbers carted all our valuables. They took laptops, phones, laptops, money and other valuable things. During the attack, about six to seven of us were injured and we were taken to the hospital. The Osun State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Adewale Adegoke visited the scene with other officials of the scheme and informed security operatives. Soldiers and other security agencies came to the lodge from Ede and see to our welfare.”
The Osun NYSC State coordinator, Mr Adewale Adegoke, confirmed the incident.
He said: “It happened on a Saturday and we quickly waded into the matter and informed the state government, DSS, and NSCDC about the incident and they have been helping. Those that were injured were taken to the hospital and some were discharged on Saturday and others left on Sunday.
“We have given the security operatives information that will help to apprehend the robbers. The Management of the scheme has been informed,” he said.
Spokesperson of Nigeria Security Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Daniel Adigun, also confirmed the incident.
He said: “They were attacked during a prayer vigil by the corps members. They stole over 20 mobile phones, laptops and N120, 000 from them. Some of them were matcheted”.
