Police arrest 6 bandits, 3 cultists with ammunitions in Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command on Saturday arrested six suspected bandits with a heavy truckload of ammunition along Ughelli/ Port Harcourt road, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
In a press statement issued by Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright revealed that the Eagle-net special squad intercepted the suspects during a routine patrol/stop and search along Ughelli-Porthacourt road.
He said that the six suspects; two males and four females were nabbed in a Mazda 626 saloon car dark green in colour with Reg. No. UGH 722 AA while on their way to a yet to be ascertained destination.
Edafe said, “On the process of searching a sack containing rice, a man whose name is not yet known among the occupants jumped into a nearby stream running while a hot chase ensued but all efforts to catch up with him proved abortive as he escaped into the forest.
He further disclosed that one hundred and 138 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition, one AK47 magazine, one Baretta pistol magazine and a knife was recovered from the bag of rice.
He said the investigation revealed that the occupants are all passengers that boarded the cab from Eleyele PHC heading to Ughelli.
In a related development, three cultists have been arrested in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South LGA of the state in relation to cult-related clash in the area.
“Preliminary intelligence, that another cult group will be converging somewhere in Ogwashi-Uku, a detailed and led operative of SACU who raided their hideout at Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South LGA of the state where their mischievous meeting is to hold and arrested one Collins Okonji and 8 other suspected cultists,” Edafe said.
He revealed that one English Pump action gun, one double barrel cut to size gun, one battle axe and two live cartridges were recovered from the cultists. ( Saturday Independent)
