Constitutional reform must reflect yearnings of ordinary Nigerians, says Sanwo-Olu
By CHRITIANA T. ALABI
As Nigerians mark June 12 Democracy Day, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has stressed the need to ensure that the ongoing constitutional reform and amendments reflect what the ordinary Nigerians in the streets want and are agitating for.
Sanwo-Olu, in an interview, noted that the changes and amendments in the country’s constitution must be a true representation of what the people want their leaders to do.
He urged public officeholders to deliver dividends of democracy to the citizens, saying June 12 has provided an opportunity for him and his colleagues to re-echo their oath of office.
“Let us ensure that as a country we can reflect properly and bring about true fiscal democracy,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu said there was no alternative to democracy, which guarantees freedom of expression, choice and movement of the people. (Daily Trust)
