Kaduna Polytechnic students, staff vacate school after bandits’ attack

The Students of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Kaduna, are vacating the school premises after the abduction of Thursday night.
Some staff at the quarters where the bandits abducted two lecturers were sighted leaving the area with their family members.
Hamza, a student of the institution, said: “You can see we are all leaving because the school is no longer safe for us.”
Another student, who didn’t mention his name, said: “Staff too are leaving the quarters for fear of the unknown same with us the students.”
He said the school was not fenced, making the area porous.
Our reporter gathered that the student, who sustained gunshot injury, was brought back from the hospital after the bullet was removed from his leg.
Students’ union leader killed
Meanwhile, a student of the polytechnic, Ahmad Muhammad, who was killed by armed bandits on Thursday, was the President of the Statistic Students Union of the institution.
Daily Trust leant that the HND ll Student died as a result of the wound sustained during the attack.
The victim was returning from Gobirawa community alongside a course mate when he ran into the bandits who were operating at the Senior Staff Quarters.
His roommate, Hamza Abubakar, described late Ahmad as a gentle young man that was committed to his studies.
“He was nice and gentle because I enjoyed staying with him in the same room at the Staff quarters. He would be missed greatly,” he added.
Hamza said he heard the victim shouting and calling for help when he was shot but they were all afraid to come out of their room to help him.
Bandits stormed the state-owned polytechnic around 10:30 pm and took away an unspecified number of students. (Daily Trust)
