Ohanaeze flays army’s harassment of youths in Abia

Abia State President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Com­rade Okey Paul Nwankwo, has called on the Nigerian Army authorities at the 14 Brigade Command, Oha­fian to stop their men from harassment and physical molestation of youth vigi­lantes in the state.

Speaking in Umuahia on Sunday to Daily Independent, Nwankwo disclosed that the body in the state has received complaints from vigilantes, adding that said if such ac­tions if were not checked, they could further escalate insecurity in the state.

“Few days ago, some youth vigilance groups from Okwu­ta Ibeku in Umuahia North Council Area and also from Bende Local Government area visited our office and laid compliant on how some detachment of military ar­rived at their duty point while keeping vigilance on their communities and arrested and beat them.

“What I do not know where exactly this military person­nel are coming from but I think they are from the 14 Brigade in Ohafia may have done this, I, therefore, call on the Brigade Commander to call his men to order and. desist from beating and de­taining youths who are com­plementing the efforts of the security agencies against the attacks on government insti­tutions and communities in the state.” (Daily INDEPENDENT)
