Balogun Business Association authorities raise alarm over unlawful sale of land

The Board of Trustees of Balogun Business Association (BBA) Nigeria have raised alarm over the alleged sale of land in their business complex at International Centre for Commerce, Badagry Expressway, Lagos, by some former officials of the association.

In a public statement, signed by the Chairman, Board of Trustees, of the Association, Chief Okechukwu Ezibe, they narrated that on Sunday, May 16, 2021, some former officials of the Association invaded the complex in the company of some prospective buyers to measure and map out areas for sale and lease. They noted that the areas affected by the planned unlawful sale of lands included areas reserved as loading bays, refuse collection areas, parking lots and areas for housing utilities such as underground cables for electricity.

The statement reads in part: “Notice is hereby given to the general public that said former officials of the Association have no authority whatsoever to sell/lease or otherwise deal with any land at International Centre for Commerce.”

The BBA Trustees warned the general public to avoid falling victims of the unlawful sale of land in the complex.

“Any person who purchases, leases or otherwise transacts any business with the said former officials with respect to land or any other properties at International Centre for Commerce, Badagry Expressway Lagos, does so at his/her peril.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Board of Trustees have, in compliance with the directives of Corporate Affairs Commission as contained in the letter of 21/04/2021 constituted a Caretaker Committee under the Chairmanship of Chief Alex Obi-Odunukwe to manage the affairs of BBA for 2 months within which time they are to conduct election into the executive council of the Association

“Any person who deals with any other person/s and/or body outside the Chief Obi-Odunukwe led committee does so at his/her own peril,” they warned.

The Board of Trustees of the Association, while restating that no valid transaction, with respect to lands and other properties of the Association can be lawfully carried out without their consent, urged the members of the Association to go about their lawful businesses and ignore any directive to vacate or yield possession of their business premises.
