Governor Wike
The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has warned that the Southern governors’ decisions on open grazing and other issues are irrevocable and must be respected.
Governor Wike stated this during a grand reception held in his honour by Ogoni nationality in Bori, Khana Local Government Area on Saturday.
He said those opposed to resolutions taken by the governors in Asaba, Delta State, should realise that no section of the country is inferior to the other.
The governor declared that he had taken further steps to fulfill the resolutions reached by the governors in Asaba.
“We have taken a position and there is no going back. Enough is enough. We are not second class citizens of this country. We also own this country,” he said.
The 17 governors in the Southern part of the country, under the aegis of the Southern Nigeria Governors Forum, had resolved that open grazing of cattle be banned across Southern Nigeria.
Rising from their meeting at the Government House, Asaba last Tuesday, the Southern Governors Forum had observed that the incursion of armed herders, criminals and bandits into the Southern part of the country had presented a severe security challenge.
The Forum also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately convoke a national parley on restructuring and address the nation over the worsening state of insecurity across the country.
Moreover, the governors expressed very grave concern “on the security challenge currently plaguing the nation and strongly urged President Buhari to address Nigerians on the challenges of insecurity and restore the confidence of our people.” (Daily Trust)
