Pastor, two others in police net for human trafficking

Men of the Ughelli ‘A’ Division of Nigeria Police have arrested a Pastor, Pastor’s wife, and one other for alleged human trafficking in Oviri-Ogor community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was gathered the suspects had initially trafficked a 23 years old girl identified as Oghenfejiro Obotakpore to a yet to be identified woman in Bayelsa State before taking her to Libya, an African country.

The suspects, One Mr. Sunday Adeyemi, an assistant Pastor of a White Garment Church, (name withheld) in connivance with the wife a Pastor, were arrested at the community after a text message from the trafficked lady to one of her relatives about her ordeal in Libya and the leadership of the community was notified.

The incident was immediately reported at Ughelli ‘A’ division which led to the arrest of the pastor’s wife whose husband is a founder of another white garment church in Evwreni, the Assistant Pastor in Oviri-Ogor and one other lady who masterminded the arrangement in Bayelsa State.

A senior police officer attached to the Ughelli ‘A’ Division told journalists that “on April 10, 2021, a community leader from Oviri-Ogor came and reported that, one Sunny surname unknown conspired with one woman whose real name unknown and trafficked one Fejiro Obotakpore Marian, aged 23, from Afiesere community but resides in Oviri-Ogor to Libya without the consent of her parents, hence the complaint.

Speaking further the source who spoke on anonymous condition, revealed that the police took action which lead to the arrest of the pastor’s wife who is popularly known as Jahmichael Ibor and the Assistant Pastor, Sunny Adeyemi and with their confessional statements, another lady from Bayelsa State was arrested.

“They are yet to be charged to court because of the strike action but would be charged immediately as soon as investigation is concluded”. The security source said.

When Contacted, The Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe confirmed the incident, saying investigation is still on and that he believed that the girl has been asked to come back to Nigeria. (Daily Independent)
