Niger restricts movements of motorcycles, tricycles

Concerned about the recent killings of security agents by gunmen on motor cycles, the Niger state government has announced the restriction of the use of motor cycles in Minna and its environs between 7 a.m and 7 p.m
The restriction order was contained in a statement made available to Channels Television in Minna by the state commissioner of information and strategy, Alhaji Abudulami Danlami.
The restriction of the motorcycle, popularly known as Okada will be “till further notice” the government warned.
According to the statement, “the restriction is part of the measure taken to by the state government to checkmate the raising occurrence of attacks of policemen by gunmen on motor cycles in the state capital.”
Four policemen have so far been killed at night in the last one week by yet to be identified gunmen in Minna, the Niger state capital. The state has also recorded a series of bomb blast attacks that has claimed a number of lives.
Also the Gombe State government has reviewed the 24-hour curfew imposed on the state metropolis, following the bombing of the Gombe divisional police headquarters on Friday.
This was also announced via a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sule Bage, which declared that the curfew will now be in force from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. (Channels TV)
