The former Governor of Anambra State and Vice Presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP) in the 2019 Presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi has declared that he has no preferred candidate among aspirants in the November 6, 2021 election.

Obi spoke when he addressed an interactive meeting of the PDP in Awka yesterday.

He said he cannot be induced by any aspirant to give his support as he believes that all the aspirants should go for party primaries and whoever wins should fly the party’s flag.

He, however, advised statutory delegates to nominate an “aspirant with conscience and capacity”, warning that “it is not all aspirants that can win elections”.

He prayed that what happened in Aba North and South Federal constituency election which was won by PDP last week be replicated in Anambra State.

He pledged that once there is a free, fair and transparent primary election by the party, it will be difficult for another political party other than PDP to win the governorship election.

Giving a little insight into his relationship with the Anambra State Government, Obi said that since he left office, he has not received as much as seasonal greeting card, talk more pension and other benefits meant for former governors of the state.

He hoped that by the time his successor leaves office, he would leave more money in the coffers of Anambra State than he, Peter Obi left.

He described as laughable allegation that he demanded for N7billion from the incumbent wondering how he could leave N75billion for the governor and turn round to demand for N7billion.

He said he has paid for party registers and hoped the party will work hard and register sufficient number of members.

Addressing the meeting which was attended by National, State Assembly members, State officers, local government principal officers, ward chairmen and secretaries, the State chairman Chief Ndubisi Nwobu said the meeting was called for members to discuss the progress of the party.

In particular, Nwobu said the state chapter of the party will begin massive membership drive which will be done at ward level from April 12.

He warned statutory delegates not to join aspirants on tour of wards, and advised them to target an aspirant that can win election.

He also announced that PDP United Kingdom chapter will be coming to train party members on mobilisation, fund raising and on how to guard the votes.

He announced that 11 aspirants have paid N5 million each for the administrative running of the party and it is only they that are recognised as aspirants of the party. (Daily Independent)
