Suspected cultists kill three in Anambra community

Residents of Awka, the Anambra State capital, woke up on Sunday to witness the killing of at least three persons by suspected rival cult group.

Three persons were weekend killed by suspected rival cult group in Awka, Anambra State chapter.

At a newspaper stand around Eke Awka market, a young man said to be a wheel barrow pusher was gunned down by suspected cultists adorning red berets and a resemblance of naval uniform operating with Keke tricycle.

The second casualty was recorded at Ifite Awka while the deceased was fleeing from the rival cult group while another was gunned down towards Amaenyi village in Awka.

It was gathered that for over four hours on Sunday morning vehicles and commercial bus operators stopped their movement from Awka to other towns for fear of being hit by stray bullets, even as commercial activities along Zik Avenue Awka were brought to a standstill.

Two weeks ago two persons were gunned down by suspected cultists in Awka.

Though the names of the cult groups involved in the recent cult war is yet to be ascertained, it is known that prior to the celebration of the yearly Imo Awka cultural festival which comes up in May incidents of cult activities herald the function.

As at the time of filling this report the Anambra State Police Command was yet to make a statement about the killings and no arrests have been made.
