Jukun Youths express worry over renewed insecurity in southern Taraba
The Jukun Youth Cultural Development Association has expressed serious worries over the renewed insecurity in the southern part of the state occasioned by the operations of bandits.
President of the Association Mr. Aboki Nafinji Danjuma, while briefing journalists in Jalingo the Taraba State capital, said that bandits in the last one month has made live unbearable for inhabitants of the area as they blocked road, kidnapped, maimed and destroyed both private and government properties in some parts of the southern Taraba.
He observed that despite efforts by Governor Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku, who has been working hard to achieve lasting peace in the state, some disgruntled elements are bent in thwarting his effort in the area of peace and security.
According to him, the renewed trend of insecurity has taken a different dimension; hence the need for the group to address the press for the world to know their plight.
“I want to state categorically that with the renewed and escalating cases of kidnapping and other forms of banditry in Wukari Local Government and its environs calls for alarm.
“On Friday, 5th of March, 2021 at 7.30 pm, along Byegya village Wukari-Ibi road, some suspected Fulani armed bandits blocked the road and kidnapped 6 persons but 2 persons escaped, one of the victims said a ramson was paid.
“The victims also identified the kidnappers as Fulani herdsmen. Also, on Saturday 6th of March, 2021, around 8.pm at Wana Village on the same axis, suspected Fulani bandits attacked four Chain-saw operators who use timber business as a livelihood. They still went and vandalised boreholes, burned down three primary school classrooms.
The President enjoined the youths not to take the law into their hands but to remain calm and law-abiding citizens as they are known for.
Nafinji appealed to the state government to collaborate with the security agencies to immediately bring the situation under total control to halt the threat to life and property to enable that the law-abiding citizens and the majority of whom are farmers to start early preparations for farming activities to commence in earnest.
