Cult war claims two lives in Anambra community

The recent orgy of killings in Anambra State continued over the weekend, with two persons reportedly killed at different areas in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.

The two victims who were beheaded and their heads taken away by their assailants were alleged to be involved in a cult war.

Information has it that one of incidents took place in a compound owned by a former traditional ruler of the area.

Few days ago, four security officials belonging to the Police and Navy were gunned down at Awkuzu and Neni areas of the state, while a police escort accompanying a prison vehicle to court was also shot dead barely 24 hours later and the prisoner freed by the assailants

Confirming the incident, the president-general of the community, Chukwudum Ndedigwe, said the compound where the incident happened belonged to their late monarch, Igwe Ubakanonu.

On his part, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, said the incident was a cult war between two rival cult groups in the area.

He said: “It is an incident that involved two rival cult groups in Okija.

“Arrest has been made and police operatives are on track to apprehend the rest that are at large.

“The Commissioner of Police, Monday Kuryas, has called for calm and also asked parents to pay closer attention to their wards’ activities.”
