NDLEA seals Sam Egwu’s hotel over alleged illicit drugs
Operatives of the Nigeria Drugs Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA), Ebonyi State Command, have sealed Grace Court Hotel and Suites owned by former Governor of the State and Senator Representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Dr. Sam Egwu.
The hotel located at Nna street in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, was sealed Monday morning over allegation that the hotel was a safe haven for illicit drug peddlers and consumers.
The anti-drug agency, it was gathered, had on Sunday night arrested some suspects allegedly in possession of large quantity of illicit drugs in the hotel.
The operation was led by one Ibrahim Bashiru, who introduced himself to journalists at the gate of the hotel as the Deputy Commandant in charge of Operations and Intelligence of the Agency.
Bashiru, however, refused to speak further on the matter, as according to him, he was not permitted to speak to journalists.
He said the Command would brief journalists on the matter in due time, adding that anybody seen within the premises of the hotel would be arrested.
One of the operatives was seen carrying many mobile phones, indicating that some persons might have been arrested within the hotel premises and their phones confiscated by the anti-drug Agency while sealing the hotel, Monday morning. (Daily Independent)
