1,000 Animal Scientists meet in Katsina, explore ways to improve livestock production

No fewer than 1,000 animal scientists will meet in Katsina to brainstorm on ways of improving livestock production in Nigeria.
The animal scientists will meet at the Federal University Dutsin-ma, Katsina State on March 14, during the 46th annual conference of the Nigerian Society for Animal Production.
The Chairman, Local Organising Committee of the conference, Prof. Lawal Abdu-Saulawa, made the disclosure during a press briefing on Monday in Dutsin-ma.
He said that the theme for the conference is, “Animal Agriculture: A Panacea for Nigeria’s Economic Growth in the Post Pandemic Era”.
Abdu-Saulawa, who is also the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, FUDMA, said that the conference was expected to end on March 18, 2021.
He disclosed that the Chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and Tertiary Institutions Trust Fund (TETFund), Sen. Ahmad Babba-Kaita, would chair the occasion.
He added that officials of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, livestock producers and livestock industry stakeholders would also participate in finding solutions for the problems of livestock production in the country.
According to him, discussions would be on livestock Economics, Extension and Marketing, Wildlife, Micro-Livestock, Apiculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture, and Ruminant Nutrition and Management.
Others are; Animal Health and Welfare, Animal Products and Value Addition, Animal Breeding and Genetics, Animal Physiology and Biotechnology, Pasture and Range Management and Mono gastric Nutrition.
A communique would be issued at the end of the conference.
