Magu in limbo after sack from EFCC

The fate of former acting chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commis­sion (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu is still unknown.

Magu, a Commission­er of Police (CP) was sus­pended from the anti-graft agency by the Presidency, over allegations of official corruption last year.

As a serving Commis­sioner of Police with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Magu ought to have been redeployed to other forma­tions of the NPF but as at the time of writing the sto­ry, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu was yet to redeploy Ibrahim Magu.

Similarly, Magu’s sala­ries ought to be running, until the Police Service Commission (PSC) either retires him or dismiss him for culpable reason.

Crime Tracker investi­gations on why Magu was yet to be redeployed by the IGP met a brick wall.

A dependable source at Force Headquarters (FHQ), Louis Edet House Abuja, told Crime Tracker on phone on Thursday that, “it is not the responsibility of the IG to redeploy Police Commissioners.”

The source explained that, “it is the responsibil­ity of the Police Service Commission to redeploy Commissioners, to promote officers and to discipline officers. So call the Police Commission.”

Our source was remind­ed that it is the preroga­tive of the IGP to redeploy CPs and Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Po­lice (AIGs), and subject to ratification of the PSC. The source insisted that it is PSC that redeploys offi­cers.

Subsequently, the spokesman of the PSC Ike­chukwu Ani was contacted on phone on Thursday over Magu’s redeployment. But he said he did not “know anything about it.”

Two weeks ago, the Pres­idency nominated Bawa to the National Assembly to replace Magu.

In what looks like an acted script, the Assembly confirmed Bawa within a short period of less than two weeks.

The nomination and endorsement of Bawa con­firmed speculations that Magu will not be recalled.  (Saturday Independent)
