10 kidnapped in renewed bandits attack in Niger

Ten people have been kidnapped in Kagara and Katcha communities in Niger state.

The bandits were said to have kidnapped the Director of Kongeama Table Water, Alhaji Aminu and six others in Kagara.

The NATION learnt the bandits first went to the Government Technical College, Kagara before entering into the village to continue their operations.

Sources told The NATION there may be possibilities the bandits were hoping to abduct another group of students.

It was gathered what saved the day was absence of students in school as the government has ordered closure of all boarding schools in the crisis-affected areas of the state.

In Katcha community, bandits attacked and abducted three people in the community.

It was learnt the bandits attacked the town at about 1 am on Sunday and operated for three hours.

The Chairman of Katcha local government, Alhaji Mohammad Baba Nna confirmed the attacks in the Katcha community in a telephone interview.

He said that three people were abducted, adding no one has heard from them since when they were abducted till when the time of filing this report.

“The incident happened around 1 am and lasted for three good hours, they went away with three persons who are businessmen in the town and we are yet to hear from them.

“They came with very sophisticated weapons and I am sure that’s why the Policemen were afraid to come to their rescue during the incident,” he said.
