North blocking food supply to South-West after herdsmen disrupted farming — Afenifere

Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, says it is unfortunate that after herdsmen disrupted farming activities in the South-West, northern traders have now decided to block the supply of food to the South-West who are the real victims.

Truckloads of food items from the North were on Friday stopped by northern trade unions from entering Kwara State and the South-West.

The northern groups also demanded billions in compensation for their members killed and properties destroyed during the Sasa crisis in Ibadan, Oyo State and the EndSARS protests in the western and eastern parts of the country.

Afenifere spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, however, told The PUNCH on Saturday that it was unfortunate that after Fulani herdsmen had disrupted farming in the South-West, their northern compatriots could go ahead to impose a food trade restriction on the South-West.

He said, “For a long time we have been telling our people to prepare for this. We cannot continue to depend on food from the North. We had been feeding ourselves for centuries but they are the ones that have now prevented us from farming on our land because of the attacks on our farmers.

“But let them know the implication of what they are doing. What if the South says fuel will not be sold to the North? What will they do? Where will they get fuel?” (The PUNCH)
