Nasarawa State Hospitals Management Board gets a new CMD

Nasarawa State Hospitals Management Board (NSHMB) now has a new Chief Medical Director (CMD). He is Dr Egba Edogo, who succeeds Dr. George Usman Dangana, recently appointed General Manager of Nasarawa State Infectious Disease Control, Diagnosis and Research Centre.

The handover ceremony which took place on Friday, January 29, 2021, at the Boardroom of HMB Headquarters, Lafia, started with introductions, followed by opening prayers.

The occasion had all directors and deputy directors in attendance, including all heads of department. It was anchored by the Director Admin and Supplies, Mr. Hakuri Namo, who welcomed all to the occasion and appreciated the outgoing CMD for his stewardship.

In his opening remarks the Director Medical Services, Dr. Akolo Namo, congratulated the new CMD “for a well-deserved appointment”, which he described as a result of his humility, kindness and selfless service to humanity. He assured Dr. Edogo of full cooperation to take NSHMB to an enviable height.

Other directors took turns to applaud the outgone CMD, congratulate as well as advise his successor, Dr. Edogo, pledging to give him their total support to promote team work.

Director Nursing, Mrs. Patricia Osumanyi, congratulated Dr. Edogo and showered praises on Dr. Dangana, hoping that he keeps up his good work in his new assignment.

Director Finance and Account, Hajia Salamatu Oseze, said it had been a successful working experience with Dr. Dangana “because of his exemplary leadership qualities which are commendable and worth emulating.” She noted that “his quest for team work, standard and quality greatly impacted the organization”, praying that Dr. Edogo also maintains the same standards.

Director Medical Laboratory Services, Alhaji Rosha Garba, commended Dr. Dangana for his efforts in ensuring that there was constant water supply and power, praising him for effectively utilising the World Bank Support Fund through the NSHIP project to renovate dilapidated structures. He advised Dr. Edogo to source for funding to ensure sustainability.

Director Technical Services, Mr. Francis Ozegya, and Head of Audit Department, Mr. Umaru James, said the outgone CMD “had left landmarks and footprints that are too numerous to mention.” They noted that Dr. Edogo’s appointment was due to his kindness and humility.

Responding, Dr. Dangana gave God the glory for being alive and for giving him wisdom and knowledge in handling affairs of the board. Rephrasing Julius Caesar’s “I came, I saw and I conquered” he said that he came, he saw and he achieved even though his aspiration was not actualised in terms of manpower, infrastructure and equipment for General Hospitals in Nasarawa State to be among the best health facilities in the country.

Dr. Dangana explained that he had hitches as there was no Board of Directors to fast-track the process. He said that his principle of teamwork played a great role in his achievements, and appreciated the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule for his great support, advising his successor to be mindful of his decisions and imbibe the spirit of teamwork.

Responding, the new CMD, Dr. Edogo, appreciated the efforts of the outgone CMD while also commending the Directors, Deputy Directors and all unit heads for giving him the needed support to succeed. He reiterated that his attention should be called whenever they noticed that he is going astray as he looks forward to a cordial working relationship with them and all the staff.

To conclude the handover process, Dr. Dangana alongside the Directors showed Dr. Edogo round the organisation.
