Man runs amok, kills wife, child with shovel in Anambra

A 28-year-old man, ChukwuemekaObijofa, of OfufeNza village in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State has killed his wife and one of  his children with a shovel.

A source from the community said the suspect suddenly ran amok in a  questionable manner and attacked his 26-year-old wife,  ChisomChukwuemeka, and his 4-year-old child, hitting them on the head with a shovel.

The source also stated that the suspect used the same shovel to attack and wounded a vigilante man who attempted to rescue the victims.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Anambra State Police Command, CSP Haruna Mohammed, said  suspect  allegedly reported to have ran amoke and used a shovel to hit the victims on the head.

According to him, the suspect was arrested on Tuesday  at about 7:45pm by the Police operatives attached to Ozubulu Police Station.

“The suspect allegedly ran amok in circumstances yet to be ascertained and attacked his wife, one ChisomChukwuemeka, ‘f’, aged 26 years, and own child, named Amanda Chukwuemeka, ‘m’, aged 4 years, both of same address, with a shovel on their heads.

“Suspect equally used same object and wounded a vigilante man who tried to rescue the victims,” he said.

According to him, the police detectives visited the scene and took the victims to the joint hospital, Ozubulu, for medical attention where the two victims were confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor.

“The wounded vigilante is responding to treatment, while the corpses of the victims have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy,” he said.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP John Abang, has directed the DPO to transfer the case to state CID, Awka, for investigation to unravel the actual cause of the incident. (Daily Trust)
