Afenifere dissociates self from Yoruba Patriots’ Movement summit
By TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI, Lagos
Pan- Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere has dissociated itself from the forthcoming summit by the Yoruba Patriots Movement to discuss the welfare, security and mutual coexistence of Yoruba people within a peaceful, stable and united Nigeria.
The summit themed, “Yoruba Nation: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” is scheduled for Thursday, January 21, 2021.
Speaking with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin said the organisation will not be present at the summit as it was not notified by the organisers.
It added that even though the organizer listed its leader, Pa Fasoranti as one of the speakers at the event, no formal communication was made to Afenifere about the programme.
“They listed our leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti as one of the invitees but he will not be there because he is not a loner. He leads a group which is Afenifere.
“We want to make it clear that they never consulted us and no formal communication was made to us. They just dispatched an invitation to our leader as an individual. Based on that, we will not be there,” Afenifere said. (Daily Independent)
