Daily Trust - Rahama Sadau: IGP puts Police on red alert

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has put the Police in Kaduna state on red alert following the uproar that greeted the pictures posted on social media by popular Kannywood actress, Rahama Sadau.

Sources have also told Daily Trust that the actress was preparing to make herself available to the police.

The source added that she was getting in contact with her lawyers and will act based on their advice.

The actress had shared some stunning pictures, which exposed her back with her head uncovered on her verified Instagram and Twitter pages.

The pictures drew mixed-reactions including a purported comment considered as blasphemous to the person of Prophet Muhammed (SAW).

A petition written against the actress dated 3rd of November 2020 had requested the IGP to direct an investigation over some comments considered blasphemous and injurious to the person of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

“During the process of the debate by various users of the social media, some of them were said to have made some comments that are considered injurious and blasphemous to the person of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

“All entrities to make her (Rahama Sadau) remove the pictures and apologise to the Muslim Ummah proved abortive, instead she even acknowledged those comments by liking them.

The petitioner also claimed that the controversial pictures “have generated a lot of tension and may likely lead to the breakdown of law and order as youths and other Muslim clerics are already threatening to take action against her.”

While responding to the petition, the IGP directed the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Umar Muri to investigate the matter and ensure that that the development does not lead to the breakdown of law and order.

Daily Trust reports that the controversial actress, who was banned in 2016 by Kannywood film industry had apologized over the uproar the pictures generated.

In an interview with the BBC Hausa, Sadau expressed regret just as she begged for forgiveness.

“I have mentioned in a video that I regret that act and never thought it will lead to that controversy.

“As a Muslim, people should reason with me that I can never do something that will lead to blasphemy on our prophet PBUH,” she said.

“I just wake up to realised that someone commented on the post on twitter and it was terrible.

“I immediately removed the post and distanced myself from what he has said,” she added.

This isn’t the first time Rahama will be in the news for the ‘wrong’ reason as she was heavily criticised over a music video she featured-in in 2016.

She appeared to be having body contact with the musical artist, an action that the Kannywod industry prohibited. (Daily Trust)
