Gunmen storm private hospital in Nasarawa, abduct 5 people
By BRAHEEM HAMZA MUHAMMAD, Lafia
Seven gunmen invaded a private clinic and abducted five people in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
The gunmen invaded Kunwarke Clinic and Maternity in Kan-Tsakuuwa, near Federal University Lafia, and took away one staff and four relations of some patients, but one victim later escaped.
The Director of the hospital, a former deputy speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Elisha Agwadu said the kidnappers came thirty minutes after he left the hospital at about 8pm on Saturday night.
A witness said the gunmen were well armed, shot in the air sporadically and commanded everyone to lay facedown as they made away with their victims.
“The kidnappers contacted me this morning at about 6.30 and told me that this was the 26th time they have come after me without getting me,” said Agwadu.
“‘All we are demanding from you now if you don’t want your staff and others to be killed is N20m’” he claimed.
“They put a call through to me again at about 12.20pm demanding for a ransom of N20m and I have told them to give me up to 6pm. They have asked me not to contact the police for anything,” Agwadu said.
Police Commissioner in Nasarawa State Command, Bola Longe, in a telephone, said he is yet to be briefed on the incident.
He called on the members of the public to report any suspicious movements to the police for quick action. (Daily Trust)
