Chief John Nnia Nwodo, the president general of Ohaneze Ndigbo, has said that contrary to belief in some quarters, majority of Ndigbo do not share what he said was a provocative call by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Recall that in the heat of the #EndSARS protest that rocked the country in the last three weeks, an audio recording surfaced online where Kanu made some statements regarding the destruction of properties owned by Yoruba, which led to reactions in some quarters, particularly in the Southwest.
Speaking on the Africa Independent Television (AIT) programme on Monday, the former Minister of Information wrote off the speech by Kanu as not representing the minds of Igbo people.
Nwodo noted that it was unthinkable that an Igbo man with of investments around the country could conjure the idea of destabilisation of the country.
“I heard IPOB made provocative and very unfortunate comment and I disassociated Ndigbo and Ohaneze from such use of language because it is regrettable.
“I want to assure you that majority of Igbo do not share with that position and use of language by IPOB. It is not our culture. It is unthinkable that any Igbo man should be firing a salvo of disaffection in Nigeria with the gamut of our investments in other parts of Nigeria. That is not possible,” he said.
Nwodo flayed Godson Adeyinka, a Yoruba man who gave Igbo 48 hours quit order from Yorubaland, saluting Afenifere for disowning him that call.
“I am disappointed that Grandson Adeyinka in London is fanning the embers of disunity, calling on Yoruba to disassociate with Ndigbo.” (Daily Independent)
