Looted drugs: Kaduna looters are at great risk of serious illness, death says DG NAFDAC

The Director General, National Agency for Food & Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Prof. Moji Adeyeye has called on Kaduna State government to identify the looters of Kakuri warehouse in the Narayi area of Chikun LGA.

Adding that, the looted items include expired, prohibited and dangerous drugs. Persons who consume such drugs are at great risk of serious illness and death.

While saying that residents of Kaduna State are to be vigilant and careful about the source of the food and medications they take and where they buy them, to avoid these dangers.

She also commended the Kaduna State Government for taking prompt action to safeguard the health of its Citizens.

It would be recalled that, the management of a food processing company whose stores were looted in Kakuri in Kaduna state on Saturday disclosed that the stolen grains have been treated with chemical preservatives which render them unsafe for consumption.

The Director General immediately alerted Governor Nasir El-RUFAI of Kaduna State about the dastardly act .

NAFDAC has updated the Kaduna State Government about the items looted yesterday from their warehouse in the Narayi area of Chikun LGA.

Residents of Kaduna State are hereby notified to be vigilant and careful about the source of the food and medications they take and where they buy them, to avoid these dangers.

Adeyeye, however, expressed shock about the looting and mindless destruction of NAFDAC property and however thank God that no life was lost.

The Director General has made concerted efforts to beef up security around NAFDAC facilities nationwide to forestall a recurrence. (Sunday Independent)
