Osun: Suspect fakes own death certificate to evade EFCC prosecution

One Ajari Oghenekewe accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of presenting a fake death certificate to evade investigation, on Tuesday appeared before a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State.

The defendant was arraigned on three counts bordering on attempt to defraud and presentation of fake death certificate to EFCC while being investigated.

The prosecutor, Usman Muritala, while addressing the court, explained that the defendant through one Felix Iyekute presented fake death certificate to the EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office, while undergoing investigation.

Muritala also said the defendant forged the identity card of Mikano International Limited, using the name, Emefiele Smart, which he presented to Fidelity Bank, Ile Ife branch, with the intention to defraud.

The offences committed were said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 1 (2) (c) of Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap. M 17 laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges pressed against him, while his counsel, M. O. Benson, prayed the court to commit his client to bail.

In his ruling, Justice Emmanuel Ayoola told the defence counsel to file a formal bail application.

He also ordered that the defendant be allowed to enjoy administrative bail granted him by the EFCC.

Ayoola subsequently adjourned the matter till November 18 for ruling on bail application.  (The Punch)
