BREAKING: IGP Adamu bows to pressure, disbands SARS
The Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, has been disbanded.
Adamu made the announcement days after a public outcry and series of protests calling for a scrapping of the unit over allegations of brutality and human rights violations.
Nigerians, mostly the youths, took to the streets of major cities to protest SARS’ brutality while the hashtag “ENDSARS” has trended for days on social media.
The Nigeria Police bowed to pressure early Sunday afternoon, with Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu announcing the dissolution of the dreaded Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS).
