A team of vigilantes from Numba-Koro, a village on the outskirts of Suleja in Niger State, has succeeded in rescuing a married woman and her daughter who were abducted last Wednesday.

A community leader from the area while confirming the incident to our reporter yesterday said the victims were on their way to nearby farm to fetch firewood, when they were accosted by some armed men.

He said the people, who later appeared to be kidnappers, directed them further into bush “Just the way herders are shepherding their animals. “Two other females, a woman and a girl in the entourage, who have made a stop over by a fallen tree, were the first to notice the development, and sneaked back to the village, where the matter was reported.

He said the group of the vigilante from the area and the nearby communities spent the day in searching for them, but to no avail adding that it was the next day that the two victims were located inside a forest located along the Suleja/Minna highway.

It was gathered that two of the suspected kidnappers were later rounded up in the bush and the third suspect identified as their informant and supplier, was located at a separate location.

It was further learnt that, the two rescued victims, who have suffered in the hands of kidnappers including rape and hunger, are currently recuperating in their home after been taking to the hospital, while the kidnappers were taken to the Niger Police Command CID, in Minna for further investigation.

Effort to talk to the Police Area Commander in charge of Suleja, ACP Sani Badarwa was not successful at the time of filing this report, but a senior police officer at the command, who craved for anonymity, confirmed the development. (Daily Trust)
