Robbers invade students hostel in Bauchi, five suspects arrested
A female student of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi was rushed to hospital with a deep machete cut to her head after armed robbers attacked her off-campus hostel in the Gwallameji Area of the state capital.
Five robbers reportedly invaded the lodge about 2am last Friday, carting away several items including a laptop, gas cylinder, box and mattresses.
A 23-year-old female student Fukaihat Ayuba, who recently gained admission into the institution, was also severely injured in the attack.
An eyewitness said the robbers threatened to kill her.
The eyewitness said the thieves locked the hostel gate with a padlock they brought for the operation, and went straight for Fukaiyat.
She was rushed to the state specialist hospital, the eyewitness, who is a neighbour, said.
“One of the robbers barged into her room and threatened to kill her. He cut her with a machete without any provocation. She was actually the only one attacked in the lodge.
“She lost much blood, and from doctors’ observation, the cut may have ruptured her skull. We have been directed to go for scan to see if her brain is not affected.”
Police spokesman Ahmed Mohammed Wakili confirmed the incident, saying that five suspects have been taken into custody. (The Nation)
