Gulani bridge collapses, cuts off farming communities in Yobe
Farming communities in Gulani Local Government Area of Yobe State were cut off after a bridge linking them collapsed since the beginning of this year’s rainy season.
A concerned citizen of Gulani who spoke on the condition of anonymity revealed that “the bridge collapsed since the beginning of this year’s rainy season and disconnected them from moving their farm produce to markets especially now that is harvesting period.
“It has also affected access to health services and others. Even though it is a federal road, it requires urgent attention of governments at all levels; we have been patient awaiting government intervention on the repairs; unfortunately it has not yet been neither reconstructed nor temporary solution made.
He further explained that the bridge linking Gulani with Teteba collapsed affecting communities as vehicles no longer plied the road to Gulani Gari, Garin Tuwo, Borno Kichi, Ruhu, Garin Bauchi, Yelwa and other settlements “who happen to be large producers of food items in the area.
“The collapse of the bridge is causing us serious hardship, as people now have to go through very long distance of 15 kilometres, trekking to get out of their villages for their day-to-day activities and the situation is already affecting social and economic activities making it difficult for us to go to our neighboring Gombe State through Dadin Kowa,” he said.
