Edo poll: Obaseki defeats Ize-Iyamu in his LGA

Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, has defeated Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state governorship election, in his local government area. 

Ize-Iyamu is from Orhionmwon. Obaseki scored 13,445 votes in the council to defeat the APC candidate who polled 10,458 votes.

Obaseki, who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is currently leading Ize-Iyamu with over 82,000 votes.

The governor is leading the APC candidate in 12 local government areas out of 17 declared so far by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Edo election which was held on Saturday was not without issues.

There were incidents of vote-buying, ballot box snatching and violence.
